Prayer

It’s so fast that almost two years have come to pass, and here we are, taking the first of our second to the last major exams. With all the lessons finished, and almost everything done, our second to the last, or rather, preliminary run has come to a start. Somehow, the prayer said by Mrs Goh this morning, placed into mind how we alone are unable to rely on our own strength, but we need to rely on God and by his grace can we take up our pens and sit for our exams.

So here is a song, for some slow reflection.

The Prayer

Fried Rice

Why would anyone want to steal some leftover fried rice I put in the fridge? Are we this desperate to find food amidst the boarding school dinner that we resort to take people’s fried rice in the fridge even when it is quarter gone already? Sigh.

Predicting Potential

And it occurs to me how one may never be successful in knowing how much potential someone has in achieving their goals. To them, your grades determine your predicted potential to be successful in life, or at least to get to the course you want in university.

Potential energy, as we learn in secondary school physics, is equivalent to mgh, the product of mass, gravity and height. It is what they use to determine the energy of an electron, by measuring how far it actually is from the nucleon core with its given mass and the electrostatic force of attraction between them. This equation is simple and beautiful to show how even the very predicted potentials of poor performing students may be flawed. It’s simplicity lies in its measurement, how not only the academic height of poor performing students is potential determined with, but also on the sheer determination that gravitates the student in learning and the amount of matter he understands in the mind.

The truth lies in this simple equation. The only way to predict, is to truly know the person.

It’s better not to know things sometimes.

So I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them.

And after I thought that I would not ever think about it again, the image of it returns in full glory again. I try not to be bothered about it but I guess I just do not think it is right. But I guess this should pass. It has happened dozens of times before. Things happen for a lot of reasons, and we just need to choose where we can go from here.
